Moving Checklist – What to do Two Months Before Your Move

Published on March 28th, 2012

As I was searching the web today I ran across a Moving Checklist from Real Simple. It not only tells you what to do, but when to do it. For example, two months before your move, they suggest that you start doing research to find your mover. This is great advice for budgeting your move…

“Start investigating moving company options. Do not rely on a quote over the phone; request an on-site estimate. Get an estimate in writing from each company, and make sure it has a USDOT (U.S. Department of Transportation) number on it.”

and another one I thought was really good…

“Create a moving binder. Use this binder to keep track of everything—all your estimates, your receipts, and an inventory of all the items you’re moving.” this is something to be done two months before your move as well, with a binder or pocket folder everything stays in one place and is easily accessable.”

And one more good idea you can do two months before your move is to organize school records…

“Go to your children’s school and arrange for their records to be transferred to their new school district.” It will be done and you won’t have to think of it when you get really busy with the actual move out and move in.”

Check out the entire article on Real Simple’s Website.

If you’ll take the time to do these simple things you’ll have a much more organized and stress free move.
