Pflugerville was named in honor of Henry Pfluger. Arriving from Germany in 1849, Pfluger bought land in the area, first 160 acres and later more. He and his family were farmers and also raised cattle, they drove them to market along the now famous Chisholm Trail. After the rail road arrived in 1904 Otto Pfluger, Henry’s son built the first cotton gin, then another, an ice factory and in 1913 H.H. Pfluger built the Sky Dome Motion Picture Theater.
