Lakeway is a great place to live and to play, with a private airport, golf courses, marinas, 65 miles of lake and one hundred acres of parkland and trails this may just be the destination you have been looking for!
You’ll find Lakeway on the south shore of Lake Travis, about 25 miles west of downtown Austin. Originally a retirement and second-home community, Lakeway now draws families, empty-nesters and young professionals wanting to enjoy the natural beauty and recreational activities including golf, tennis, hiking, biking, picnicking, camping, swimming, scuba diving, fishing, and boating.
Originally this area was inhabited by Tonkawas Indians, many relics from over 5000 years ago are plentiful in the area. From Dinosaur bones to rocks charred from campfires, flint weapons, tools and bones are all evidence of people who enjoyed the beauty and bounty of this area of Texas.
Today Lakeway is a thriving community proud of their lifestyle. The 2010 US Census reports the population was 11,391. The cities largest employers include Lake Travis Independent School District, Lakeway Resort and Spa and the Lakeway Regional Medical Center. Schools in Lakeway are exceptional too, rated exemplary in 2011. For higher learning in the area there are several colleges including The University of Texas, Saint Edward’s University, Austin Community College and Concordia University.
It’s understandable that there are plenty of outdoor activities in Lakeway, residents and guest to the area can enjoy the Lakeway City Park. The 65 acre park features walking, jogging, skating and bike paths, Huser Memorial Pavilion, a beach, water activities, play area, picnic sites, a butterfly garden, a wildflower meadow, a dog park, grills and benches, sand volleyball, slides, restrooms and a multi-purpose sports field.
There’s also a free skate park in Lakeway. The approximately 9000 square feet of combination bowl and street elements is open to the public.
