Buda’s History – Formally established April 1, 1881, when Cornelia Trimble donated land for a town site at the International-Great Northern Railroad Depot. Originally named DuPre, the name was changed to Buda at the request of the post office department.
Supporting the surrounding dairy farms and ranches with supplies was the basis of Buda’s local economy. Other business’s supported early in the city’s history were mills, hotels, banks, lumberyard, two news papers, a cheese factory, a movie theater and an ice skating rink. The Chamber of Commerce was created by local businesses in 1928.
