Here are some ideas to help you stay safe this year!
When handling fireworks:
1. This one seems obvious, never use fireworks indoors because they can cause a fire.
2. The most common type of injury from fireworks is eye injury, so be sure to wear safety glasses.
3. Be sure you only use legal fireworks, they will be labeled and will be less likely to malfunction.
4. Read the label for lighting instructions and never lean over the fireworks while lighting.
5. Keep alcohol away from fireworks, it is highly flammable.
6. Have a bucket of water nearby or a hose in case of fire and to soak the used fireworks in, this will prevent burns.
7. Brown paper wrapped fireworks are not meant for recreational use, they are often professional grade. You don’t want to use these in your backyard or if you aren’t a professional.
8. Don’t point fireworks at someone or any animals, even when playing. You don’t want another to be seriously injured.
9. Light fireworks on a flat nonflammable surface, away from trees or brush or any other flammable objects or materials.
10. And most importantly use your common sense and have a good time.
