Austin Gorilla 5K Run 2014.  Here’s something different! Run a 5K in Austin, Texas wearing a gorilla suit benefiting mountain gorillas in Africa. Even the little ones can run in this 5K race which includes walkers and kids.  You can’t bring anything motorized, but you can bring your bike.  The race will be run on January 25th at Mueller Browning Hanger.

You can run on your own or you can really get into the spirit by getting your friends and colleagues together and run as a team, with a theme if you like. There will be a prize for the largest team.

The entry fee includes a gorilla suit that you will be running in and get to keep after the run.

When – The race starts at 9am on January 25th with registration taking place from 7am to 8:30am.
The 5k is 3.1 miles. Runners will take about 25 minutes and walkers should finish the course in under an hour.

Registration Fees
To secure your place you will need to pay a registration fee that is non-refundable. You can pay online or get information to mail your fee.

First Time Adult Gorilla fee until January 23rd – $99.95.   January 24th and 25th – $109.95.
Returning Adult Gorilla fee until January 23rd – $40.   January 24th and 25th –  $50.
First Time Little Gorilla fee until January 23rd – $30.  January 24th and 25th –  $40.
Returning Little Gorilla fee until January 23rd – $15.  January 24th and 25th – $25.

Little Gorillas are 12 and under and the gorillas suit for kids is a safari shirt with gorilla sleeves and a mask.

There is a group discount of 10% for teams of 10 or more.

About The Suits – The gorilla suits come with a body, mask and hands. No feet.
Sizes are as follows:
small – fits under 5′ tall
medium – fits most gorillas 5′ – 5’7”
large – fits most gorillas 5’8″ to 6’1”
XL – fits gorillas 6’2″up to 6’5″ish
And you get to keep the gorillas suit!

Pick-up locations for the gorilla suits will be announced on Austin Gorilla Run website.  Or you can have your suit shipped to you when you register.

Proceeds from the race directly benefit the Ruth Keesling Wildlife Health and Research Center in Kampala, Uganda. The brand new facility will include two main lecture halls with seating for 100 students, two large scale research laboratories, postgraduate and grant research offices. The lower section will contain a Wildlife Disease Surveillance Biohazard Level 1 Bio Bank. A first of its kind research center for Africa!
