Polar Bear Splash Around Austin 2014! Here’s something different and cold! In three locations this New Year’s Day you can take the plunge into the New Year! In Pflugerville at the Scott Mentzer Pool, at Barton Springs Pool in Austin and at the Kyle Pool in Kyle you can get your New Year’s freeze on!

About Barton Springs Pool – Measuring three acres and fed from underground springs this Austin attraction maintains an average year round temperature of 70 degrees. There may not be a huge crowd there on New Year’s Day but in recent years this pool has attracted numbers close to 800,000.

Scott Mentzer Pool is closed for the season but if you are willing to brave the cold water you can participate in the New Year’s festivities. Participants will slide into 2014 into this beautiful and unheated body of water. You can get in free with a canned food item to benefit local food banks.

There’s a new tradition in Kyle and that’s to ring in the New Year with a splash! There’s no admission charge or membership required to enjoy this icy experience. Just come on out to Kyle Pool, they will have light snacks and drinks available. The pool gates will open at 1pm and the line-up is at 1:25. After the splash at 1:30 there will be Polar Bear Club Door Prize Drawings. If the event is rained out they will make it up on Saturday January 4th.
