Why Do We Move?
Why do we move? As you know we are a very migrant society, with most of us moving every few years. Ever wonder why this is? Here are some ideas, you may find you own reasons for moving among these.
The Need For More Room – When families grow they need more room. Many times young couples purchase a home that fits their budget and makes sense at the time. Then as children come along, and space gets tight it becomes more and more obvious that it’s time to move on to a new place.
Job Transfer – Many times families move to new communities or to new countries because of job requirements. As we grow in our careers and earn more money we have a chance to not only experience new places but purchase larger homes as well.
Upgrading – It does seem to be human nature to move on to what is now wanted. Whether it be the desire for a larger and more spacious home or to get away from problems with the old home, many home moves are made because now there is more cash available and it’s time to get what is wanted. It’s a good thing really, onward and upward!
Changes in Relationships – With the divorce rate at around 50% or so, it’s not surprising that many moves revolve around changes in personal relationships. But it’s not always about relationships breaking up, many times it’s about new relationships and marriages coming together that causes us to pack up and make a move.
Other relationships create the need for us to move also. Families who want to see each other more often move closer to one another. Parents sometimes move closer to grown children to help with the growing families or because they need care from their children as they age. There is also sometimes the desire to move away from family members we don’t get along with.
Need For Less Room – After the children move out it’s often beneficial for the empty nesters to downsize. They may want to move to locations that are warmer or just let go of so many rooms to clean or get away from those stairs. As our population ages we are seeing a lot of this. With special restrictive neighborhoods popping up where residents must be of a certain age.
Change of Life Focus – Many homeowners want to take the money out of their homes to pursue other interests and hobbies such as traveling, or they may not want to have the responsibility that comes along with home-ownership. Dreams change and along with them comes the need for new living arrangements.
