Austin Civic Orchestra – 2013 Season – Cool Things To Do In Austin

Published on April 14th, 2013

The Austin Civic Orchestra – 2013 Season is about Embracing The Classics and Exploring The Future. Come on out this season and support and enjoy the work of this awesome collaboration!

Music Director Lois Ferrari, while embracing the future as well as the past has created a program that has something for everybody. Realizing that classical music, as a relevant and important art form, must embrace the future, the 2013 concerts should be unusual, and to use their words, electric, off-beat, cross-genre and radical. And along with the future the Austin Civic Orchestra will be celebrating the past with classics from favorites like Tchaikovsky and Beethoven.

“Among the oldest community orchestras in the country, the ACO was founded in 1977 by Mac Payne with sponsorship from the Austin Community Schools for the purpose of offering a recreational performing experience to musicians in the community. The organization started with a small group of string players that has since grown and evolved into the full symphonic orchestra it is today. The Orchestra’s first public performance was on September 14, 1978 in the ballroom of the University of Texas Student Union.”
