Here’s a little bit about Memorial Day…
Memorial Day is a United States holiday held on the last Monday of May. It is a day set aside for remembering and honoring men and women who died while serving in the US Armed Forces.
It was formerly called Decoration Day and established on May 30th, 1868, three years after the Civil War ended. Originally observed to decorate the graves of those who died in the Civil War. It is believed the date was chosen because flowers would be blooming everywhere in this country by then.
That same year a large observance was held at Arlington National Cemetery, just across the Potomac River from Washington.
