Pflugerville – Austin Neighborhoods
Pflugerville was named in honor of Henry Pfluger. Arriving from Germany in 1849, Pfluger bought land in the area, first 160 acres and later more. He and his family were farmers and also raised cattle, they drove them to market along the now famous Chisholm Trail. After the rail road arrived in 1904 Otto Pfluger, Henry’s son built the first cotton gin, then another, an ice factory and in 1913 H.H. Pfluger built the Sky Dome Motion Picture Theater.
Today Pflugerville is a thriving and successful community. As noticed by Money Magazine in their 2012 Top 100 Best Places To Live. Pflugerville ranked number 46, comparing Pflugerville’s connectivity, housing, financial state and quality of life to other cities nationwide.
If you enjoy outdoors and water activities you’ll really enjoy the 180 acre Pflugerville Lake. You can’t bring your jet boat, but you can walk or run on the three mile trail, enjoy the beach, kyacking, kite surfing, fishing and swimming.
In 2010 RRE Austin Solar broke ground on the Pflugerville Solar Farm, a 720 acre solar farm which will be the largest in the nation with more than 400,000 solar panels. When completed the solar farm will produce enough power for around 40,000 homes.
Every Tuesday, May through October there’s a farmers market at the Green Red Barn. During the summer, two Fridays each month bring your cooler and enjoy Music in the Park at the gazebo in Pfluger Park.
