Moving Protection with Bubble Wrap
Comments Off on Moving Protection with Bubble Wrap
Bubble wrap, you know that stuff that comes inside packages to keep stuff from breaking. That stuff is great moving protection for your more fragile items. Bubble wrap is one of today’s most popular packing materials.
“Bubble wrap is an accidental discovery by two engineers, Alfred Fielding and Marc Chavannes, in 1957 that revolutionized the packaging industry. It is polyethylene resin or transparent plastic film. It uses evenly distributed air cushions, in the form of air bubbles trapped between two films of clear plastic to offer shock and vibration protection during transport. The bubbles vary in size depending on the size and fragility of the item. Generally, small bubble wrap is used for small items like electronics and glassware, while large bubble wrap is used for larger items like furniture.” Bubble Wrap and It’s Benefits, SuperPages.com
According to the article, besides being inexpensive bubble wrap offers many advantages:
Good Protection
Less packing materials are needed
Lightweight, good for shipping costs
Reusable and recyclable
Bubble wrap can be bought in several forms and types including bags, sheets, rolls, large or small bubbles, anti-static, self adhesive, and more. There is even an environmentally friendly biodegradable wrap available. This new type of bubble wrap breaks down into the soil completely.
Looks like bubble wrap is a great source of moving protection!

In a Williamson County news release dated April 4, 2012 it is reported that Williamson County has been ranked the second healthiest county in Texas. Moving Checklist – What to do 6 Weeks Before Your Move
Comments Off on Moving Checklist – What to do 6 Weeks Before Your Move
Last week I started a series, Moving Checklist. It is from a great article I found online by Real Simple. It tells what to do and when to do it! Here are the things they suggest you do Six Weeks before your move…
“Order supplies. Order boxes and other supplies such as tape, Bubble Wrap, and permanent markers. Don’t forget to order specialty containers, such as dish barrels or wardrobe boxes.”
By ordering your boxes and other supplies well ahead of time, you have plenty of time to sort and pack.
This next idea will keep you from throwing food away on moving day…
“Use it or lose it. Start using up things that you don’t want to move, like frozen or perishable foods and cleaning supplies.”
And this last one can help you keep down surprises on moving day….
“Take measurements. Check room dimensions at your new home, if possible, and make sure larger pieces of furniture will fit through the door.”
You can see more moving ideas at Real Simple.

Purge While You’re Packing to Move
Comments Off on Purge While You’re Packing to Move
One of the best things about packing to move is the opportunity to throw out, give away and let go of all that stuff you don’t need. We all have extra stuff, it just seems to be a part of life, but if we use moving as an oppportunity to clear out and throw out, our move will be easier and less stressfull. You can use the one year rule..”if you haven’t used it in a year, you probably won’t miss it.”
Follow this simple system; as you pack, have a box for trash, and a box for stuff you want to give away or sell. As you go through each drawer or closet or shelf, ruthlessly get rid of stuff you no longer use or need or want. Just keep remembering, “there’s no need to move it if I don’t use it”.
Purge, Purge, Purge – When you are packing to move pay special attention to things like kids toys they don’t play with any more, kids clothes they have outgrown, books, old magazines, your clothes you don’t wear or like, medicine and vitamins, dishes, linens and food.
Set aside old paint cans and chemicals until you find a place in your community that takes them. This is also a great time to get rid of any documents, be sure to shred or destroy them.
Get rid of those old and unused laptops and cell phones. Some you can sell on buymytronics.com or Craigslint or eBay. Others you can recycle at Best Buy or at your town’s recycling center.
Moving is about the new place, the new town, the new job, the new school. Letting go of your old and unused stuff…makes room for new stuff, new life and a breath of fresh air at your new home.
Happy Moving!

Moving Checklist – What to do Two Months Before Your Move
Comments Off on Moving Checklist – What to do Two Months Before Your Move
As I was searching the web today I ran across a Moving Checklist from Real Simple. It not only tells you what to do, but when to do it. For example, two months before your move, they suggest that you start doing research to find your mover. This is great advice for budgeting your move…
“Start investigating moving company options. Do not rely on a quote over the phone; request an on-site estimate. Get an estimate in writing from each company, and make sure it has a USDOT (U.S. Department of Transportation) number on it.”
and another one I thought was really good…
“Create a moving binder. Use this binder to keep track of everything—all your estimates, your receipts, and an inventory of all the items you’re moving.” this is something to be done two months before your move as well, with a binder or pocket folder everything stays in one place and is easily accessable.”
And one more good idea you can do two months before your move is to organize school records…
“Go to your children’s school and arrange for their records to be transferred to their new school district.” It will be done and you won’t have to think of it when you get really busy with the actual move out and move in.”
Check out the entire article on Real Simple’s Website.
If you’ll take the time to do these simple things you’ll have a much more organized and stress free move.

Fun Auction for a Great Cause!
Comments Off on Fun Auction for a Great Cause!
We have the incredible privilege of telling a sweet story and helping wonderful friends in the process. Supporting our troops is an important endeavor, and we’re giving all of you the opportunity to help us in one such endeavor.
Upon returning this winter from his second tour in the Middle East as a navy reservist, one of our friends and his wife had a great surprise from other friends. A group of ladies had come together to give this military family a mini-home-makeover. They completely re-vamped the master bedroom and worked through some other areas of the home as well, to pay tribute to this soldier and his family. While working through the house, some furniture was lovingly redone, and some has been moved out completely. This is where all of us come into play.
To continue saying thank you, we’re helping the family sell the items that they decided they could part with. We thought it would be fun to have a little silent e-auction with these items. Below are the photos and starting bids for each item.
Sango Concepts 16-pc dish set: dinner plates, salad plates, bowls, mugs (new, box was opened but dishes never used) $40
Dining table with extension leaf and 4 chairs $80
Chest of drawers $20
Entertainment center $50
Bookcase with sliding doors$30
Computer desk $20
Glass curio cabinet with mirrored back, glass shelves and lighting fixture $150
If you’d like to support this family and participate in this auction, please submit bids to hornefamilyauction@gmail.com. Bids will be accepted through Monday, 2/27/12 @ 5:00pm. As bids come in, we’ll update the bid price on this blog so be sure to check back frequently and re-bid on these great items that you’d like to add to your home. On Monday evening, we’ll email the winning bidders. You will be able to come pay for and pick up these items from our warehouse on Tuesday (8500 Research Blvd, 78758). We can accept payment for this family by cash or credit card (we can process the payments for buyer’s convenience, then present the family with a thank-you check).

We have continued to offer support and help to our neighbors in Bastrop, devastated by the wildfires on Labor Day. In addition to giving a few individual families moves out of fire-destroyed areas, we have also been able to hook up with the Austin Disaster Relief Network http://www.adrntx.org/. We are proud of our crews who have willingly given of their time to deliver to the staging warehouse water, supplies, clothing and more for the families in need and volunteers who are helping them. It is awesome to be part of a larger community of so many caring individuals all coming together in a time of crisis. Central Texans, keep up the good work in restoring Bastrop!

Homecoming Floats
Comments Off on Homecoming Floats
We had a blast helping Hill Country Christian School of Austin transport their homecoming floats to the Friday night football game! The elementary school kiddos rallied in support of the high school football team, with each class creating a float for the homecoming half-time show. We safely transported about 20 floats to the Cedar Park High School stadium where the proud artists displayed their work. What a great night, and great win for the Knights: 71-26!
